Stranraer (Creachmore) Golf Club
Creachmore - 6308 Yards (par 70)
Stranraer Golf Club, a James Baird designed course with scenic views to take your breath away, is situated 3 miles from Stranraer on the A718 to Kirkcolm. This course, set on the shores of Loch Ryan, will give all golfers, regardless of handicap, an unforgettable game.
The spirit of James Baird, five times Open Champion, lives on in this classic championship course, the last he designed. Unfortunately he died in 1951 before the course opened.
In this quiet, idyllic corner of South West Scotland you will be free from crowds of people and the drone of traffic-filled roads. Book your tee time, turn up to play, enjoy your golf and the wonderful scenic views.
Holes to look out for....
3rd - The burn is crossed three times to reach a green between a large bunker on the left and a steep bank sloping down to the burn on the right.
5th - Set on the shores of Loch Ryan, one of the most scenic holes in Scottish Golf with it's view to the mouth of the Loch and Arran beyond.
11th - Demanding tee shot with trees and out of bounds on the left, then a steep rise to a very fast green.
15th - A harder par three is difficult to find. Accuracy is paramount with the ground sloping away either side of the green.
The Gents' course record of 66 is jointly held by the late Mr C.J Findlay and Mr J. Sproule Jnr. The Ladies record of 69 is held by Miss Lesley Nicholson.
Facilities - In the spring of 1994 a new two storey Club House was built, to compliment this, the finest of courses. From the first floor lounge bar a view of most of the course can be enjoyed with a backdrop of surrounding hills, Loch Ryan and passing ferries to and from Ireland. Full catering is offered throughout the year. Due to the mild climate in the South West of Scotland, the course remains playable all year and is frost free on all but a few days.
Enjoy a refreshment and meal in the Clubhouse with hospitality to make you feel at home. Ideal for the family or Club outing, the purpose-built Clubhouse suits everybody's needs and will give you a day out to remember.
